MORE THAN A THOUSAND WORDS

I'm on my way to releasing my hundredth book so I'm no slacker when it comes to my work. But it's not art-making but parenting that I've found to be the most complicated--the hardest --task. And the most affirming -- here are some recent pictures of my blossoming child (this blog, too, is just my refrigerator door for his pics -- my real life refrigerator, by the way, is so fancy you can't stick images on it (what was I thinking?!) I love my book covers, but wouldn't trade a single one for any of these photos taken, respectively, while debuting a new suit for the Homecoming Dance, hanging with his soccer teammates (dig those soccer shoes!), and harvesting pumpkins (small this year but still cheerful!) with the dawgs:

Achilles is helping me edit the manuscript for SUN STIGMATAS (formerly MICHEL'S REPRODUCTIONS OF THE LOST FLAG: SCULPTURES), my next book which will be released next year. The new book contains poems "sculpted" out of the prose poems in my 1998 book, REPRODUCTIONS OF THE EMPTY FLAGPOLE (lying atop manuscript). So far, Achilles has been supportive of the new poems. Woof!

"PHOTOEMS" FACING FEMINISM!

Annette Marie Hyder curated a project, "Facing Feminism: Feminists I Know." Participants were asked to send in photo and text to create "photoems" to explore the theme. Well, Annette just received a grant (yay!) to spread the word and do an exhibition, for which she is using Facebook to spread the word by posting a photoem daily over the next couple of weeks. You can see that brilliant and loving project HERE.  Please "Like it," as they apparently say ...

And, specifically, Moi am HERE! preening with my Achilles when he was still a puppy! Actually, I love this baby photo of Achilles so I'm going to repost below, but please do go visit the TOTAL PROJECT to see these wonderful Feminists!

MOM TO A MAN!

You know how we get annual school photos of your kids as they go through school?  Well, we got Michael's latest for this year and, OMG, it's the FIRST photo I see of Michael as a young man!  Previously, his photos all showed a kid, but this one?  He's a MAN!

Wasn't it just yesterday that he was a kid, a tiny kid at that!  Here he was ... in the beginning:

How can my son be a man when I'm getting younger every day?!

GARDEN AVATAR

Got two poetry manuscripts in progress.  Started a novel.  Started a new poetry project focused on "lines."  That is, got several things commenced ... but none close to fruition yet.  Just like the garden.  On a pear tree, the first pear reveals iself greenly:

Obviously, says the non-biased Mom-as-art-critic, the matching tilted "S"s at the end of the two lines is genius.  Genius!

SPRING FLOWERS

Keep having intermittent showers as winter clings on. But today's walk among the flowers just make me even more eager for ... Spring!















And the flowers are just beginning to bloom!

HOMERUN!

Michael is much more enjoying his experience at his new school. Here he is in his spankin' new baseball hat -- he was just accepted to the JV Baseball Team! We're so happy as he'd never played baseball before, but the Coach said he improves rapidly! That's my natural-athlete son! Not to mention muy guapo, si?!



Achilles, as ever, remains a fan! I'd better go read up on baseball -- it's a sport I've ignored since the hubby introduced me to it by encouraging me to be a Red Sox fan some years back and then ... that ball rolled between that player's legs (I'm sure you rabid baseball fans know EXACTLY what I'm talking about!). I can't remember the dude's name but I'll never forget that rollercoaster emotional horrific journey -- talk about being dropped off a cliff. And now I must return to the sport because ... I'm a Mom!!

MOI CANCER-FREE MOM COACH-ES GABRIELA!

So, Coach has provided me with go-to bags over the years. I think it’s because my acquisition of my first Coach bag symbolized my then new adult independence. Plus, my first Coach bag was a black leather bag that kept getting tattered and all I had to do was send it to a Coach factory in New Jersey and they were always happy to repair it for free—I still have it today. Anyway, got a new Coach bag today and here is Gabriela trying it on:



Said bag was part of a retail celebration Mom and I embarked on this afternoon to celebrate this morning’s news: she’s now FREE OF CANCER! Wooooot! Promptly therewith, Mom decided to attempt to heal the economy with several purchases including my newest daily Coach!

But Mom didn’t just buy bags…or shoes….a watch for Michael…and various other sundries—she also purchased some poetry books for me … Which is to say, this of course was just a way to provide another update to my Recently Bought Poetry List, to wit:

BIG AND UG-LEEEEE!

I'm working on a new project involving Poetry and the Great Recession. Very excited about it. Can't wait to announce it. But no details yet, so instead I'll blog about this City Slicker's latest horrific result in that Hell known as Garden: a pumpkin Moi grew, to the dogs' horror:



I feel Halloween approach ...

REPRISE FOR MICHAEL, SHEEP BRAIN AND ALL!

The Parents Association really did a great job putting together the wonderful graduation festivities for Michael's class. As one parent and I agreed, it felt like there was a Bollywood wedding as well as a Greek funeral somewhere in the mix that lasted three days! Anyway, here's a recap of the last day of celebrations, which took place at one of the families' homes that rivals Michael Jackson's former abode. We start with this fabulous swimming pool designed in a way to incorporate Disney-like features and made Michael, who loves to swim, proclaim, "I AM NEVER GOING TO LEAVE!" He's on the right frowning as he doesn't seem to understand that to be a parent is to take photos!


Much activity, but the bulk of the photos now will focus on the host taking the visiting families for a train ride (yeah, he's got a train in his backyard--why not?):








Finally, here's one last photo of Michael's class when they went hiking one last time together, led by their science teacher (Michael's on far right hanging over a branch):


Oh, let's not forget about the yearbook! Each graduate did a drawing which incorporated their class photo. Michael's, of course, features ... Achilles!


Last but not least, and I know many of you have been waiting for a photo of this, here is a photo of the sheep brain that Michael dissected because it looks very much like a human brain ('twas lovely finally tossing that in the garbage this morning!):
